Jonathan Scott and Zooey Deschanel got engaged back in August 2023.
Zooey Deschanel is celebrating a special milestone with her fiancé, Jonathan Scott.
The New Girl actress and singer, 44, took to Instagram on Sunday, Aug. 11, to share a heartwarming tribute to the HGTV star, 46, in honor of the fifth anniversary of their first date.
In the post, Deschanel shared several photos featuring Scott, capturing moments from their life together. "Five years ago today I was lucky enough to go on a first date with this total dreamboat person," Deschanel wrote in the caption. "Here we are and he’s still making me smile every day. 😍."
Among the snapshots are scenes of the couple enjoying a meal together, a reminder of the special connection they share. In one humorous photo, Scott is caught mid-bite, enjoying a piece of chocolate, his playful nature shining through.
ET's Nischelle Turner spoke to the groom-to-be last week ahead of the season premiere of his and twin brother Drew Scott's Celebrity IOU, and he shared why wedding planning hasn't been top of mind despite the fact that he and Deschanel have been engaged for a year.
"I have no updates. I wish I had more exciting news. We just got back from Europe. We just had our daughter's birthday party, and then we had another event and a charity thing," Jonathan explained. "We don't even feel settled in yet, but we have determined that we are gonna figure it out soon."
Prior to her relationship with Jonathan, Deschanel was married to musician Ben Gibbard from 2009 to 2012 and to Jacob Pechenik from 2015 to 2020. Deschanel and Pechenik share Elsie, 9, and Charlie, 7, while Jonathan considers himself a "bonus dad" to both kids.
Jonathan and Deschanel met while filming an episode of Carpool Karaoke in August 2019.
"I just remember she had this incredible, energized demeaner," Jonathan told ET of his first meeting with his now-fiancée. "We hit it off right from the beginning."
Drew couldn't be happier that Jonathan has found love with the actress, whom he believes is "so perfect" for his brother.
In addition to their busy personal lives, the brothers have a packed professional schedule. Later this month, season 8 of Celebrity IOU will premiere. This season features a star-studded lineup. There's heartwarming Mandy Moore, Wanda Sykes with a flame thrower, Danny Trejo wielding a machete, and "beast" Jennifer Jason Leigh, to name a few.
"Every year I just can't wrap my brain around how we get this incredible roster of huge, huge celebrities who I know are these busy, successful people," Jonathan marveled, before promising that viewers "are gonna laugh until you cry, you're gonna cry until you laugh."
The brothers have no plans to slow down anytime soon, as they eye landing Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds for Celebrity IOU's next season.
"We're gonna continue to do what we do 'cause we love it. Everything we do focuses on families," Drew said, with Jonathan adding, "I like how we constantly are finding ways to evolve the shows and listening to the audience. There's no shortage of incredible celebrities, incredible stories. I feel like you're not gonna get rid of us anytime soon."
Celebrity IOU will premiere Monday, Aug. 12 on HGTV.
