Why You Need to Know Timothee Chalamet & Saoirse Ronan This Awards Season

The young actors were honored at the Palm Springs International Film Festival on Tuesday.

2017 was filled with powerful, enchanting performances, particularly by young actors Saoirse Ronan and Timothee Chalamet.

Ronan, who is no stranger to the awards circuit after starring in films like 2015's Brooklyn and 2007's Atonement, is earning praise for her latest role in Lady Bird, while Chalamet, who acts alongside Ronan in the Greta Gerwig-directed film, has been the subject of awards buzz for his part in Call Me by Your Name.

ET's Denny Directo spoke with both stars at the 29th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards on Tuesday night, where Chalamet was honored with the Rising Star Award and Ronan received the Desert Palm Achievement Award.

"I'm just full of tremendous gratitude," Chalamet said of be recognized for his performance. "There's no design or plan to be in films that are well-received. You just try and work equally hard on everything, so to be in things that are well-received is a good feeling, because I've been in things that nobody sees."

"I saw Saoirse last night as we got into the hotel together. She hadn't seen Call Me by Your Name yet and she saw it, so that was an awesome feeling and I shared a big hug with her," he continued of his Lady Bird co-star. "What's cool is, like, seeing the heroes and the people I've studied and admire and now they've seen things I'm in, which is crazy. That's the weirdest feeling."

Chalamet was equally charming on stage while accepting his award, adorably telling himself, "please don't be awkward," before giving a special thanks to his Call Me by Your Name co-star Armie Hammer's wife, Elizabeth Chambers, "who let me crawl over her husband for two months." The actor also hilariously thanked his mother in a cute message about misplacing the Apple TV remote.

"Timmy deserves everything that he's getting, because he's just so wonderful in [Call Me by Your Name]," Ronan, 23, told ET on the red carpet. "So, yeah, to get to share the night with him and Luca [Guadagnino], who directed [the movie] and Greta, and all the other lovely people we've met [is wonderful]. Like the nice thing is you end up just being with the same people throughout the circuit, so you get to know each other and it kind of takes the competition out of it and it becomes more of a communal thing."

"Honestly, having just gone through [the awards circuit] before, you sort of know what to expect a little bit. It's overwhelming, its a roller coaster, so if you can keep your wits about you as much as possible, that really helps," she shared. "It's important for me now to have my mom with me, or my best friend come to an event or something like that. It's nice to have your people with you."
