The actor also opens up about facing years of anxiety.

Don't let Robert Pattinson hear you calling Batman a "superhero."

Over the weekend, the 33-year-old actor appeared on Sunday Today With Willie Geist, where he discussed taking on the Dark Knight and everything that comes with such a beloved character. He shared that, when the role crossed his path it was "an immediate yes," but made it clear that he takes issue with the way Bruce Wayne's alter ego is classified among fans.

"Batman is not a superhero," he corrected host Willie Geist while talking about the character. "It's weird. I always balk at it. I'm like, 'It doesn't count. You need to have, like, magical powers to be a superhero.'"

Pattinson also talked about the possibility of the role once again turning him into a heartthrob, like during his years of starring in the Twilight franchise.

"There's a part of me that thinks it's impossible to be…what happened with Twilight because it was just sort of…just so sudden," he stated. "And now… I'm hoping it won't be people hanging out outside my place. I just think I'm kinda boring and old now."

The Batman, slated for a 2021 release, also stars Paul Dano as The Riddler with Colin Farrell and Andy Serkis in talks to play The Penguin and Wayne's butler, Alfred Pennyworth, respectively.

Additionally, Zoe Kravitz was enlisted to play Catwoman in the DC film. In October, ET spoke with Pattinson about the addition of the actress to the cast, where he shared his full-throated endorsement.

"Yes! Zoe's great and I've known her for years and years and years," he said. "I mean, I've been friends with her for, like, 10 years and she's brilliant."

On Sunday's Today show, the leading man also chatted about his early days in acting, which were fraught with anxiety, especially when preparing for auditions.

"I used to get so paralyzed with anxiety before auditions," he told Geist. "I couldn't do anything in the audition and I think I'd been trying to find a way for so many years to try and get rid of the anxiety by trying to calm yourself down. It never worked."

"You just need one to work!" he added with a laugh.
