Patrick Mahomes is taking credit for Travis Kelce's relationship with Taylor Swift.
Patrick Mahomes thinks he may be the reason for Travis Kelce's romance with Taylor Swift. During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback revealed why he believes he should get credit for his teammate's relationship.
"We enjoy it. It's been a fun run," Mahomes said of the tight end's romance with the superstar. "I like to take some of the credit. I was the one who invited Travis to the first Taylor concert when the friendship bracelet [plan was made]."
"He was sitting in my suite, so I feel like I was the matchmaker," he added. "I had some input in there as well. I was like, 'Dude, you should just go for it. Just go for it!' And you know Travis, man. He does it. He's a great dude."
Back before Kelce was dating Swift, he was just one of her many fans. After her Eras Tour stop in Kansas City, Kelce recounted his plan to get Swift his number at her concert.
"I was a little butthurt I didn't get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her," Kelce said on his New Heights podcast in July. "... I wanted to give Taylor Swift one with my number on it. She doesn't meet anybody, or at least she didn't want to meet me, so I took it personal."
Months later, once their romance was secured, Swift reacted to Kelce's failed gesture.
"This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell," Swift told Time last year. "We started hanging out right after that."
Looking back, Mahomes said, "I'm glad it's all worked out for the best."
Indeed it has, as a source recently told ET that the couple's loved ones "see an engagement coming sooner than later."
The source added, "They make a great match and there's no question about that."
As for what's next for the couple, until the 2024 NFL season kicks off, Kelce hinted on his New Heights podcast that he plans to support Swift at many of her Eras Tour shows.
"I'm gonna be dancing around, yeah. I'm all over the world this offseason," he said. "It's like the yin to my yang. Football, it keeps me locked in to Kansas City during the season and you know I just gotta fly around and have some fun in the offseason."
