As Goldie Hawn said, 'I'm really happy I stayed.'
Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell have spent more than four decades as a couple, but had they tied the knot, that might not have been the case.
Such is what the Oscar-winning actress believes, as she confirmed to Dax Shepard during a new episode of his podcast, Armchair Expert.
"If we were married, there probably could have been times where you go, 'Oh, c'mon -- I'm done,'" Hawn, 78, said.
Instead, it's because she's not obligated to be with her Overboard co-star that she has stayed.
As Hawn put it, "What I like is waking up in the morning… and actually making a choice to be with someone."
"I got a wild guy here... I picked him," she said. "I like that guy."
That's not to say everything has been breezy the last 41 years. "We don't agree on certain things. He was tougher than me as a parent," she said of 72-year-old Russell. "...But we have a very, very strong family because of it."
Hawn and Russell had their first date on Valentine's Day in 1983. Together, they welcomed son Wyatt, 37, and raised Hawn's kids with ex Bill Hudson, daughter Kate, 44, and son Oliver, 47.
All these years later, the First Wives Club star made it clear that no other man she's met compares to Russell. "Nobody came up to who he is," she said.
While the years come and go, the romance does not for this pair. "He still brings me my coffee in the morning," the mom of three said. "He grabbed me the other day and kissed me all over my face and I kissed him back."
In 2021, Hawn wrote on Instagram, "No, we never got married but one thing that continues to grow is our love. You’re a wild one, brilliant, lovable, childlike, perfectly maddening, a father supreme and deeply funny!
I can’t imagine my life without you at any age, Kurt Russell. You’re the catch. And you’re all mine."
As she said on the podcast, "I'm really happy I stayed."
