Why Adam Sandler Does Not Think Lorne Michaels Is Retiring From 'Saturday Night Live' Yet (Exclusive)

The actor recently sat down with ET to talk about his new film, 'Spaceman.'

Adam Sandler says he is skeptical about Lorne Michaels potentially retiring from Saturday Night Live anytime soon.

Speaking with ET's Cassie DiLaura at the premiere of his new Netflix film, Spaceman, the 57-year-old comedian said that Michaels' recent talk of hanging up his hat with the iconic variety sketch series may just be that -- talk.

"I don't see that happening," the SNL alum says. "I don't, maybe somebody said he might, but I talked to Lorne, I don't think he's saying enough. He's rocking. He loves it."

Sandler's comments seem to be in contrast with what the 79-year-old Saturday Night Live boss told ET on the red carpet at the Emmys.

Back in January, ET spoke with Michaels about the potential of retiring when the show hits 50 seasons, which would be in February 2025. In that same interview, he also tossed the name of SNL alum and 30 Rock creator Tina Fey into the ring as a potential successor.

"It could easily be Tina Fey, but you know, there are a lot of people who are there now who are also [an option]," he said at the time. "Tina's brilliant and great in everything. She's a very important person in my life."

Despite mentioning Fey and opening up about the potential for leaving the show, the legendary producer insisted he is not going anywhere until his baby celebrates 50 years.

"I will definitely be there for that and definitely be there until that. Sometime before that we'll figure out what we're gonna do," he shared.

Sandler says he still is not convinced that the head honcho is looking to make his exit. Furthermore, the 50 First Dates star tells ET that Michaels is just as much in it today as he was back in 1975, experiencing the same "high" that the cast and crew feel during each show.

"Yeah, he's doing great. He gets the high just like we always do, every week," Sandler says. "And he's in control."

Spaceman is now on Netflix.
