Whoopi Goldberg Says One of Her Last Boyfriends Was '40 Years Older' Than Her

The talk show host made a dating confession on 'The View' shortly before announcing the release of her upcoming memoir.

Age is just a number for Whoopi Goldberg. The EGOT-winning star made a shocking confession about her love life on Thursday's episode of The View, revealing a past May-December romance.

While discussing the trailer for Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galatzine's upcoming film, The Idea of You, which centers on a woman dating a much-younger pop star, the talk show co-host opened up about her own dating history.

"I've gone up and down," Goldberg, 68, shared. "Because your age is not what's going to get me into your arms. It's not your age that I'm concerned about. Unless you're under 18, in which case I can't."

Co-host Joy Behar chimed in that "a big gap could be problematic" for people over 60.

"One of the last relationships I had, he was 40 years older than me," Goldberg replied.

Back in 2022, Goldberg's granddaughter, Amara Skye, hinted at the star's secret relationship on the ABC reality game show, Claim to Fame

"She had a boyfriend that was, like, 90 years old, and she used to go hang out with him," Skye shared with a fellow contestant. "Some old white man named John, and he was like a billionaire. She used to sneak off and have [sex] appointments, randomly."

In an interview with USA Today, Skye said she regretted her remarks.

"No one knew about that -- I barely found out about that," Skye told the outlet. "So I was just like, 'Oh, man. I think I just put my grandma's business out there, and I don't really know if she's going to be OK with this.' But my grandma's really, really cool and pretty open. So, I don't think I did so bad."

Goldberg has been married three times. Her last marriage, with Lyle Trachtenberg, ended in 1995. She has also previously been linked to Frank Langella, Timothy Dalton and Ted Danson.

On Friday, the iconic entertainer announced the upcoming release of her memoir, BITS AND PIECES: My Mother, My Brother, and Me, out May 7 via Blackstone Publishing.

According to a press release, the semi-autobiographical book chronicles the early influences of her life and details the life changing moment when her mother lost all memories of her children after a hospitalization.

"Now, Whoopi herself has come to the realization that her own memories of her loved ones are beginning to disappear and become faulty with passing time," the press release states. "She gains a newfound sense of permanence of those gone too soon through conversations within the pages of her memoir."

Last month, filmmaker Tyler Perry offered a hopeful update for fans of the Sister Act star as the beloved franchise appears to continue moving forward with a new sequel in development.

"I'm a little annoyed with how long this has taken me. It's taking so long. Like, I've done four movies since we started talking about this," he told ET. "When I'm outside producing with -- you know, Disney's a huge, wonderful company, but I really want to get this movie and Whoopi really wants to get this movie."

But, as much as Perry and Goldberg would love to jump into production, the filmmaker explained that it takes a lot of work to ensure all the cogs in the machine are the right parts. "Well, just making sure we have the right writers, the right script, the right story, [and] all of those things are so important because it's such an important, iconic film. We want to make sure we do it justice and do it well. So, we're willing to wait for the right script," he told ET.

On the plus side, after a few false starts, Perry shared that the team "finally got a great pitch."

"[We got] a great story we're working on that Whoopi's excited about, I'm excited about, the director's excited about, [and] so Disney's excited about," he added. "So we're working on getting that done. Once that's done, we're rolling!"
