Mamie Laverock allegedly fell five stories at a Vancouver hospital while being transported amid an unrelated 'medical emergency.'
When Calls the Heart actress Mamie Laverock is lucky to be alive, according to her mother, Nicole Rockmann. In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Rockmann shared that her 19-year-old daughter, who portrayed Rosaleen Sullivan on the Hallmark show, opened her eyes days after her shocking five-story fall.
Noting that her daughter's body was "shattered," Rockmann told the outlet that Laverock is in "tremendous pain" and "aware" of what's going on.
"This is an absolute miracle and there will be accountability," Rockmann said, blaming the hospital where Laverock fell. According to Laverock's parents, she was initially rushed to a hospital in the Canadian city of Winnipeg on May 11 for an undisclosed "medical emergency." Per the family's GoFundMe page, Laverock was allegedly being "escorted out of a secure unit of the hospital and taken up to a balcony walkway from which she fell five stories."
Noting that her injuries were "life threatening" and that the actress is currently on life support, Rockmann told the Times that the fall was not "intended" or a suicide attempt. She said the family plans to take legal action against the hospital, describing it as a "negligence-type case."
"We have a case. All we care about is that Mamie can make a recovery and that she's alive and that she's fighting and that she's strong," Rockmann said. "It's unbelievable that she's with us.”
Ann Gibbon -- a spokesperson for Providence Health Care, which operates St. Paul's Hospital -- released a statement to the Times confirming that "an incident happened" at the hospital. They did not go into detail due to patient privacy.
"In cases related to patient safety, an internal critical incident review is conducted to determine exactly what happened and to make recommendations for improved patient safety," Gibbon said. "Our hearts go out to the patient, family, and all affected by this event, and we offer our best wishes for a full recovery."
In a recent update on Laverock’s GoFundMe page, her loved ones shared that she has undergone a total of four surgeries, expressing "nothing but gratitude" for the doctors and nurses who have cared for the actress.
In a previous statement to ET, Hallmark Media stated, "We are deeply saddened to hear the news about Mamie. As a beloved member of our When Calls the Heart community, we wish her and her family peace, comfort, and many prayers during this difficult time."
Laverock portrayed Rosaleen Sullivan on several episodes of When Calls the Heart from 2014 to 2023. Her performance earned her the 2015 Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a TV Series – Recurring Young Actress Ten and Under, as well as a 2014 Joey Award in Vancouver for Young Ensemble Cast in a Dramatic Series.
Erin Krakow, Laverock's co-star and executive producer on When Calls the Heart, posted an update on her Instagram Story on Sunday on behalf of Laverock’s family. The post featured a photo of Laverock and a link to her GoFundMe page, expressing the family's "immense gratitude." Krakow informed fans that the family would no longer be providing updates on Laverock's health, as they will be "focusing on healing."
