In a devastating reveal, the show is saying farewell to one of its OG survivors.
Warning: Spoiler alert! Do not proceed if you haven't watched Sunday's Walking Dead season eight midseason finale. Everyone else, grab your tissues...
Say it ain't so!
No one saw it coming, but The Walking Dead just delivered one of its most shocking deaths yet.
RIP Carl Grimes.
Yes, on Sunday's season eight midseason finale, the teenage son of series hero Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), revealed he had been bitten in the ribs by zombies a few episodes back, and is just about to die.
The episode didn't feature Carl's death, but Chandler Riggs, the actor who has played the character since season one, assures fans he's not bouncing back from it.
"Yes, Carl is going to die," Riggs told The Hollywood Reporter. "There's no way he can get back from that. His story is definitely coming to an end."
Riggs technically has one episode left in his series run, the 2018 midseason premiere, which airs on Feb. 25, and will feature Rick, Michonne (Danai Gurira), and the rest of the Alexandrian crew seeing poor Carl die in front of their eyes.
The now 18-year-old actor has played Carl since age 11, and is the only cast member other than his on-screen dad to survive the entire series from the pilot onward.
Fans were crushed by the loss of what many saw as the future of the post-apocalyptic world, especially because Carl is alive and well in the comic series the show is based on.
Cue the crying gifs.
