Tyler Perry Explains Why He Had to Put Friend Beyoncé's Music on Mute

The 'Mea Culpa' director dishes about hitting the road with the Queen Bey this summer.

Tyler Perry (briefly) had to do the mute challenge with Beyoncé's music -- after spending some time on the road with her this summer.

On Wednesday, the Mea Culpa director appeared on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, where he dished about the quality time he spent with Queen Bey on the Renaissance World Tour this summer.

"During the strike, I had a lot of time on my hands, so I went on tour with Beyoncé," he quipped. "She didn't know it, she didn't know it, but I was on tour with her at all these different stops."

Perry, 54, was spotted at Bey's opening show in Stockholm, Sweden, then attended dates in Los Angeles (including her star-studded birthday show) and Atlanta, Georgia. The famed producer was on hand in November for the premiere of Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé in Los Angels.

Still, Perry said that despite attending numerous shows, he continued to play the Renaissance alum, until it came time for him to do the mute challenge with the music.

"I played that Renaissance album so much that I had to put Beyoncé on mute," he told Fallon. "I was like, 'I can't.' I needed a break because if you wake up in the morning saying all the songs in the morning ... all day long."

However, the break from Bey's music didn't last long, as he shared that he's been listening to her two newly released country singles, "Texas Hold 'Em" and "16 Carriages."

"And then she comes out with some more great stuff a couple days ago, so it's good."

Mr. Perry shared that he also hit the road with other artists including Chris Stapleton, Diana Ross, and Anita Baker.

"I was on tour with everybody," he joked to Fallon. "They didn't know it though."

On Super Bowl Sunday, the 42-year-old musician stopped the world once again, when she announced upcoming new music, after appearing in a Verizon spot.

Beyoncé starred in the ad, in which she, with the help of Tony Hale, tried to break the internet through a series of promotional stunts. The spot ended with Beyoncé exclaiming, "Drop the new music!" While no further information was revealed at the time, Beyoncé's follow-up Instagram post answered all of fans' burning questions.

Beyoncé didn't leave her fans wondering for long, as she revealed that Renaissance Act II will be released March 29. The latest act in what is a three-part project, will follow Act I, released in July 2022, and was dedicated to club/house music.
