The star has signed a deal with ABC Family to make her directorial debut with an upcoming episode of Jane By Design. Hatcher will also have a recurring guest star role playing Jane's (Erica Dasher) long-lost mother for four episodes. She will film the episodes between mid-May and mid-June and make her appearance starting on the June 19 episode.
"I'm thrilled for the opportunity to direct," says Hatcher. "So many of the crew and cast of Desperate Housewives have been encouraging me to do this for a long time, from Vanessa Williams, James Denton, to the talented camera crew department and producers. Now that I have time, I'm excited to wholeheartedly conquer new ventures. Jane By Design is charming, with very funny performances. I look forward to working with new and old friends over there and helping them tell stories both in front and behind the camera."

In Jane By Design, Dasher plays a quirky teen with an eclectic fashion sense who lands a job at a hip fashion house that mistakes her for an adult, forcing her to choose between her love of fashion and the need to finish high school.
Jane By Design returns with all-new episodes on Monday, June 5 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
