Kelce is eyeing his third Super Bowl ring when he and the Chiefs meet the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.
On the eve of Super Bowl LVIII, the Kansas City Chiefs heard from team veteran Travis Kelce. And his inspiring speech apparently moved some, if not all, of his teammates to tears.
Veteran NFL reporter Albert Breer reported Sunday that Kelce, Chiefs coach Andy Reid, quarterback Patrick Mahomes and defensive tackle star Chris Jones addressed the team Saturday night at the team hotel in Henderson, Nevada. As Breer tells it, they were all great. But it was Kelce's speech that particularly stood out as "unbelievable" and "powerful."
So much so, Kelce's inspiring message moved some of his teammates to tears. Breer, formerly of NFL Network, cited sources who were in the room when Kelce delivered his pre-Super Bowl speech. Similarly, CBS Sports' Tracy Wolfson reported that Kelce delivered a "powerful, impactful speech that didn't leave a dry eye in the house."
"It was like a WWE-type speech," Wolfson reported citing a person in the room. "That was the best and most emotional team meeting in years."
Kelce and the Chiefs are looking to cement their dynasty status as they make their fourth Super Bowl appearance in five years. Kelce, in particular, is also looking to secure his third Super Bowl ring. A win would give the franchise its fourth Lombardi Trophy. By doing so, the Chiefs would become the first back-to-back Super Bowl champions since the New England Patriots accomplished the feat in 2003 and 2004 in Super Bowl XXXVIII and Super Bowl XXXIX, respectively.
A Chiefs Super Bowl win would arguably be their most satisfying one following a shaky 2023 season that saw them play inconsistent football in the latter part of the season, forcing the Chiefs to play on the road in the playoffs for the first time in Mahomes' era.
Nevertheless, the Chiefs persisted, and the Chiefs looked like their dominant old self in Miami, Buffalo and Baltimore. But the Chiefs now face a hungry San Francisco 49ers team looking to avenge their Super Bowl LIV loss to the Chiefs in 2020.
While there's been tons of hype surrounding the top-seeded Niners squaring off against a surging Chiefs team, the hype has also spilled off the field with the world's biggest pop star expected to be in attendance at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas to cheer on her boyfriend, and she'll reportedly be sitting in a suite (courtesy of Kelce) alongside the NFL star's family.
Super Bowl LVIII – which is airing on CBS and streaming live on Paramount+ – is at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, and has the Kansas City Chiefs facing off against the San Francisco 49ers. Keep checking ETonline for more from the big game, including photos, exclusive interviews and more.
