Travis Kelce Addresses Fan Theory About Whether He'll Be in 'Happy Gilmore 2' With Adam Sandler

Travis Kelce opens up about the upcoming 'Happy Gilmore' sequel coming to Netflix after he appeared to hint at being involved.

Could Travis Kelce be joining forces with Happy Gilmore? The Kansas City Chiefs tight end isn't ruling out a possible role in Netflix's upcoming Happy Gilmore 2, but it's not an ace quite yet.

On Wednesday's episode of New Heights, presented by Wave Sports + Entertainment, Travis responded to a fan's prediction that he'll be announced as a cast member in the forthcoming sequel to  Adam Sandler's beloved 1996 golf comedy. The 36-year-old athlete is an avid golfer, has been actively seeking opportunities in scripted programming, and was recently photographed wearing a Happy Gilmore hat

"I didn't even know there was a job opening for Happy Gilmore 2," Travis said on Wednesday. "But if there is, I'll be a f**king extra. You know, anything to just get around Happy Gilmore or [an] Adam Sandler film or set -- count me in."

Travis made it clear that the fan's suggestion was nothing more than "a conspiracy theory" at this time, but then seemed to hint at something more.

"Theories can come true,"  he teased. "Theories can be true and just people don't know about it. So, I might even be in the talking and nobody knows about it, but I also could not be in the talking."

After winning his third Super Bowl in five years, Travis has been busier than ever during this NFL offseason. In addition to jetting around the world with his girlfriend, Taylor Swift -- who is currently performing on the European leg of her blockbuster Eras Tour -- Travis has also tried his hand as a game show host for Prime Video's forthcoming Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?. He is also making his official acting debut with a role in Ryan Murphy's upcoming FX drama, Grotesquerie, opposite Niecy Nash-Betts.

Travis' older brother and podcast co-host, Philadelphia Eagles legend Jason Kelce, wasn't swayed by the flimsy corroboration regarding a role for Travis in Happy Gilmore, saying, "There's really no evidence to support this whatsoever."

Travis responded, "Other than the movie's getting made and I'm looking for movie deals."

"And," Jason continued, "we both love Adam Sandler. So we're just in line with about a thousand, billion other people."

Netflix announced the project earlier this month, but has remained tightlipped about specific details surrounding the sequel, including its storyline, writer, and director. Sandler, who both starred in and co-wrote Universal Pictures' original Happy Gilmore, has confirmed his involvement

Travis could certainly have an edge here if Sandler is looking to score points with his daughters -- Sadie, 18, and Sunny, 15 -- who are diehard Swifties.

The legendary comedian, 57, admitted in a recent interview that he gets "a little jumpy" in Swift's presence.

"Just 'cause I don't wanna blow it for my kids," he said on SiriusXM’s Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend in February. "So I'm a little like 'Taylor Taylor,' like I talk a little too loud or something. I don't stay as cool as I can."

In August, the 50 First Dates star was spotted at the Eras Tour during Swift's sold-out shows at SoFi Stadium. He was seen wearing a cotton-candy colored shirt and sporting several friendship bracelets on his wrist, a nod to Swift's song, "You're on Your Own, Kid."

Additionally, Sandler and his wife, Jackie, were both present at the premiere of The Eras Tour: The Movie in October, which also brought out Beyoncé and other stars. At the time, Sandler was spotted embracing his dad era as he happily snapped pictures of his girls with the pop star.

Sandler told O'Brien that Swift has helped him connect with his daughters in a way that is fun for everyone. As for whether he considers himself a fan, the actor and comedian said you can count him as a Swiftie, too.

"I know them, too, by the way. But they know them inside and out," he said of memorizing her songs. "But it's just, remember The Beatles, every song on the record, you knew? That's Taylor Swift, too. You just, there's not a song you skip. You go, 'That one's pretty damn cool.'"

For years now, talk of a sequel has been rampant, especially after Sandler and Christopher McDonald, who portrayed Shooter McGavin, said as much years ago. It was back in February 2021 when they appeared together on The Dan Patrick Show and shared that they were all in on the sequel.

If Travis does make his way to the Happy Gilmore 2 set, Jason has a suggestion for his potential role.

"If Shooter was going to have a caddy, it would be some random celebrity," Jason mused. "I feel like, who better than to be the caddy than professional tight end Travis Kelce? 'Cause he's gonna want to show off that he's Shooter McGavin."

Travis echoed his original statement, saying, "Like I said, I'll do anything in the movie. I'll be a part of it any way I possibly can."
