Taylor Swift wished Eras Tour attendees in Zurich a 'Happy July 9th' as she sang 'Last Kiss,' rumored to be about Joe Jonas.
Taylor Swift didn't miss the chance to drop a fun Easter egg on attendees at her Eras Tour show in Zurich, Switzerland, on Tuesday, July 9.
The 34-year-old songstress referenced the date during the acoustic surprise songs portion of her set, wishing fans in the audience a "Happy July 9th to those who celebrate." She then launched into a mashup of 2010's "Last Kiss" and 2012's "Sad Beautiful Tragic."
"Last Kiss" was featured on Swift's Speak Now album and is rumored to have been written about her relationship with ex Joe Jonas. On the song, Swift sings, "I do recall now the smell of the rain / Fresh on the pavement, I ran off the plane / That July 9th, the beat of your heart / It jumps through your shirt, I can still feel your arms."
The "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart" singer famously dated Jonas, albeit briefly, in 2009.
When promoting her Speak Now album in 2010, Swift told ET that the songs were "more personal than anything" she had put out before at the time, with its release following two "really intense" years for her personally, professionally and everything in between.
"I don't think I would have been happy about this album if I hadn't written about all of it," Swift told ET at the time. "I tend to include details and the entire story, because, for me, the most fun part about this, and the most intriguing part about music, is the storytelling that's woven into it with the lyrics."
Swift and Jonas, both 34, have appeared to be on friendly terms in recent years. In May 2023, Jonas said that he and Swift were "cool" in an interview on Dax Shepard's Armchair Expert podcast. Meanwhile, fans have speculated that one line from Swift's "Invisible String" -- "Cold was the steel of my axe to grind / For the boys who broke my heart / Now I send their babies presents" -- could be about Jonas' eldest daughter.
Swift previously squashed any bad blood with Jonas in a 2019 interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, when she was asked about the most rebellious thing she did as a teenager.
"Probably when I like put Joe Jonas on blast on your show," Swift told DeGeneres. "That was too much, that was too much."
"I was 18, yeah," she continued. "We laugh about it now, but that was mouthy, yeah, some teenage stuff there."
The incident Swift is referring to is from a 2008 episode of Ellen when she was promoting her album, Fearless, and shared that the songs were about "boys and love." When the daytime host asked if any of the songs were about Jonas, her boyfriend at the time, Swift revealed that they had broken up.
More recently, Swift has been seen publicly supporting Jonas' estranged wife, actress Sophie Turner, amid their contentious divorce.
"Taylor was an absolute hero to me this year," Turner told British Vogue this year, confirming ET's previously reported story that Swift lent Turner her New York apartment in the wake of Jonas' divorce filing.
"I’ve never been more grateful to anyone than I am for her because she took my children and me, and provided us with a home and a safe space," Turner said of Swift. "She really has a heart of gold."
A source previously told ET that Swift and Turner have "always liked and respected each other. They are fans of each other and have been friends for a while."
Jonas filed for divorce from Turner in September 2023 following four years of marriage. They share daughters Willa and Delphine, who will turn 4 and 2, respectively, later this month.
Meanwhile, it's been one year since Swift's current boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, made his move on the pop star. During Swift's Eras Tour stop in London last month, the couple even stepped out to party with Turner and more pals until 4 a.m. following Kelce's surprise stage debut.
