The 55-year-old actor shared the tragic news on Instagram.
Stefanie Sherk has died at the age of 37.
On Wednesday, Sherk's husband, Oscar nominee Demián Bichir, revealed that she died last Saturday on his Instagram account. Bichir shared a photo of his late wife, alongside a lengthy caption that he wrote in both English and Spanish.
"Dear friends, On behalf of the Sherk and the Bichir Nájera families, it is with inconceivable pain that I announce that on April 20, 2019, our dearest Stefanie Sherk, my beloved and loving wife, passed away peacefully," the 55-year-old The Nun actor wrote. "It has been the saddest and toughest time of our lives and we don’t know how much time it will take for us to overcome this pain."
Bichir continued by calling Sherk's presence "beautiful, angelical and talented," adding that she'll be "immensely missed."
"We will hold Stefanie in our hearts forever," he wrote. "We thank everybody beforehand for their prayers and we respectfully ask for your understanding so we may grieve in peace and privacy in these incredibly difficult times."
"It is our sincerest hope that our beautiful Stefanie, my angel and love of my life, will rest in eternal peace," he added.
ET confirmed that the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner determined Sherk died from anoxic encephalopathy, a condition caused by lack of oxygen to brain tissue. Asphyxia and drowning were also listed as causes of her death, which was ruled a suicide.
Sherk and Bichir began dating in 2010, according to multiple reports. They co-starred in Bichir's directorial debut, Un Cuento de Circo & A Love Song, in 2016 and were set to share the screen again in Grudge, which is currently in post-production and set for a 2020 release.
Sherk's other acting credits include CSI: Cyber, Valentine's Day, The Bridge and #Hashtag: The Series.
