Susan Monaghan had one heck of a chance encounter.
Beyonce just has that effect.
Susan Monaghan went viral as the woman starstruck by Beyonce after the singer posted a series of photos of herself and JAY-Z on Sunday -- and is now sharing the real story behind her chance encounter.
Monaghan, who can be seen in the fourth photo of Bey's slideshow with her mouth agape, reveals in an interview with the Boston Globe that she ran into Bey and Jay in a hallway of the Sheraton New York Times Square hotel, where Clive Davis' pre-GRAMMYs party was held on Saturday.
"I was like, 'Oh my God!'" Monaghan recalled. "I looked at her and all I could think was, 'No one is going to believe me. No one is going to believe me."
Monaghan was in Manhattan for her granddaughter's gymnastics competition on Sunday, revealing that she and her family was gathered in the lobby on Saturday night when she decided to head up to her room on the eighth floor. It was then when she saw a crowd of photographers and security guards -- and JAY-Z.
“I’m thinking in my mind, ‘Who is this?’ And I looked at him and he looked tall, and thin, and had curly hair, and was really good-looking,” she said before spotting Beyonce behind him.
Visibly shocked, Monaghan says the singer flashed her a smile that said, “Don’t worry, it’s going to be OK."
“It was so calming and so surreal,” she continued. “I swear I felt like I was hugged by an angel.”
When asked why she thought Bey posted the photo, Monaghan insisted it was just for her. "I think she posted it for me," she said. "So people would believe me."
