Shannen Doherty to Undergo Chemo Again for Stage 4 Breast Cancer: 'It's Really Hard'

Shannen Doherty has been battling stage 4 breast cancer since 2020.

Shannen Doherty is going back on chemotherapy and she's reeling from a lot of emotions.

On Monday's episode of her Let's Be Clear podcast, the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum revealed that she has to undergo the treatment for her stage 4 breast cancer, as the makeup of her cancer cells has changed and progressed.

"I thought I was fine. I am having to go back on chemo and it's really hard, like the idea of going through that all over again has wrecked me," Doherty said as she became emotional.

Doherty revealed that she has to get a port in her chest so that the chemo can be admitted. In 2016, when she first underwent chemo, the Charmed star said that the port was physically and emotionally draining to have. When she had to go through infusions againm she decided to get chemo through IV. This time, that won't work, so she has to return to the port.

"It's really hard. Like, the idea of going through that all over again has wrecked me. It's wrecked me in a sense of, yes, I knew that I had stage 4, yes, I knew that it was really serious, yes, I've taken steps to protect my family and clean up a lot of stuff. But when you have to go to the hospital and you have to, you know, get put under [and] a port put in you, it becomes very real in an incredibly different way."

Doherty is not sure how long she's going to be on this round of chemo, and it's "scary."

"Because I have no idea how long I'm going to be on the chemo for, I have no idea if it's going to be for three months, if it's going to be six months or if after three months and it's not working, if we're going to change again," she said. "That's not something that I can predict, it's not something my doctors can predict. And it's scary. It's like a big wake-up call. But at the same time, there is some positivity there."

The veteran actress admits that there are a lot more protocols or options for this round of chemo, leaving her feeling "hopeful" amid all of the unknowns coming her way.

"For the first time in a couple months probably, I feel more hopeful," she said. "There is hope mixed with my own bit of sadness because again, I don't know what these chemos ... I don't know how I'm going to feel."

Doherty was first diagnosed with cancer in 2015. After being in remission from four years, she announced that it returned in the form of stage 4 in 2020.

Aside from her diagnosis, the actress is in the mist of a divorce with her estranged husband,  Kurt Iswarienko -- whom she filed to divorce in April 2023, following 11 years of marriage.

According to court documents obtained by ET, the actress wants the court to order Iswarienko to pay $15,434 per month in spousal support, retroactive to June 1. She also requests that the court order him to contribute $9,100 in attorney's fees and other costs.
