Selma Blair Opens Up About Her New Boyfriend and MS Remission: 'I've Been Living My Best Life'

Selma Blair is speaking freely about finding love again at 52, and how she is living with MS.

Selma Blair is feeling good as she's living through remission with her multiple sclerosis (MS) and in love with a "wonderful" new man.

Blair, 52, appears as the cover star of Us Weekly's revamped magazine and gives an update on her love life and health since being diagnosed with the autoimmune disease in 2018.

"I've been living my best life trying to do just that," the Cruel Intentions star tells Us Weekly

Since her MS diagnosis six years ago, Blair has gone into remission and kept the disease at bay with a hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), chemotherapy, and IVIG, which uses the antibodies from donors.

Though she can't afford to go overseas for experimental treatments, the Legally Blonde star knows that she is fortunate to receive the treatment that she gets.

"Being able to have a place to live and a refrigerator and life, I don't take any of that for granted," she admits. "People perceive you as rich and famous but there were many years I'd have to take off work that deeply impacted [me]. If I don't [get] my SAG insurance, then I don't get my blood products. I don’t think people get how expensive it is to be disabled. Some days are really hard, and I wonder about working -- I'm a single mom supporting my kid and want a great life for us. But I know I’m privileged and others struggle so much more."

Outside of her health, Blair has entered a new chapter in her love story. While she hasn't shared many details about her new boyfriend, the star reveals that he's "a real Midwest man" and that he's not in the entertainment business.

"I saw him from across the table and now he's my boyfriend," she tells the outlet. "I think relationships are best kept out of the press if possible. Nobody wants to be exposed to scrutiny. But yes, it’s possible to find love at 52."

Blair was married to Ahmet Zappa from 2004-2006, and shares a 12-year-old son, Arthur, with her ex-boyfriend, Jason Bleick. When it comes to marriage, Blair says that she doesn't see it in her future amid all the things that come with her illness.

"Fitting in anything as a mother wanting to build a career and figure out when you're going to get your blood treatments in -- a boyfriend falls by the wayside really easily," she says. "That's why I would never want to get married. It's a major setup to fail."
