Sean Penn once again brought the laughs to late night when he appeared on Thursday's episode of Conan.

After chain smoking and claiming to be riding the "ambien train" on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert earlier this week, the 57-year-old actor sat down with Conan O'Brien for yet another memorable, albeit hilarious, interview.

While on the show, Penn humorously recalled working with former White House adviser Steve Bannon -- who was once a producer on a movie he directed -- and pondered being a news anchor in this day and age.

"We're in a time where... I think it is important to keep up the culture and I'm not ashamed to be here with talented people and you all and talking about this stuff," he told O'Brien and his sidekick, Andy Richter. "But if I were a news anchor, I think rather than reporting, I'd pull a fire alarm every night and keep doing it until somebody realized there was a fire."

The declaration was met with an applause from the audience, and O'Brien went on to promote Penn's new book, Bob Honey Who Just Do Stuff, as well as his charity, J/P HRO.

While on The Late Show, Penn once again showed his true colors when he lit up several cigarettes and affectionately talked about his ex-wife, Madonna.
