The 'Today' show co-anchor opens up to ET about her very different teenage persona.
She's a Today show news anchor now, but back in the day, Savannah Guthrie had her own teenage dirt bag phase!
ET spoke with the 52-year-old Today show co-anchor over the weekend at the White House Correspondents' Dinner where she reflected on the "nerd prom" event and what she was really like in high school.
"I was kind of a loser, under motivated, I'm serious!" Guthrie shared. "I ditched a lot of class. Some days I was goth when I borrowed my sister's clothes and then other days I was just really into wearing boxer shorts."
The mother of two added that she had some bad girl moments, noting, "I would ditch class all the time to go smoke cigarettes at Carl's Jr. It was the '80s."
As for her fellow NBC staffers, Lester Holt and Al Roker, they claim to have been a bit less edgy.
"I was a band kid," Holt told ET.
"I'll see your band kid and raise you the AV squad!" Roker quipped.
After high school, Guthrie studied journalism at the University of Arizona and went on to attend Georgetown University Law Center. In 2011, she officially joined the Today show family.
These days Guthrie doesn't quite live the same wildchild existence. She shares 9-year-old daughter Vale and 7-year-old son Charley with her husband, Michael Feldman.
"We all know how we feel about our kids," Guthrie told ET in March 2023. "I always say if my kids aren't at peace, I can't be at peace."
