Sarah Ferguson was treated for both skin and breast cancer.
Kate Middleton is getting more support from members of the royal family following her cancer diagnosis.
On Monday, Sarah Ferguson -- who has had two cancer diagnoses within the past year -- released a statement in support of the Princess of Wales amid her latest health announcement.
"All my thoughts and prayers are with the Princess of Wales as she starts her treatment," read the Duchess of York's post on Instagram. "I know she will be surrounded by the love of her family and everyone is praying for the best outcome. As someone who has faced their own battles with cancer in recent months, I am full of admiration for the way she has spoken publicly about her diagnosis and I know it will do a tremendous amount of good to raise awareness. I hope she will now be given the time, space and privacy to heal."
In January, a representative for Sarah told ET that she was diagnosed with malignant melanoma and a series of moles were removed from her body when she underwent reconstructive surgery following her mastectomy.
At the time, the rep for Sarah said that she found the news "distressing," as it came so soon after her breast cancer diagnosis.
"She is undergoing further investigations to ensure that this has been caught in the early stages. Clearly, another diagnosis so soon after treatment for breast cancer has been distressing but the Duchess remains in good spirits," the rep said in a statement.
The news of the skin cancer came six months after Sarah's rep confirmed to ET that she underwent surgery for breast cancer, after it was detected in the early stages following a routine mammogram.
On Friday, Kate made the shocking reveal that tests after her abdominal surgery in January showed she had cancer. In her video statement, she mother of three said, "My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I'm now in the early stages of that treatment."
Since sharing the news, Kate has also received public support from well-wishers, other public cancer survivors and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. In a statement to ET, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said, "We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace."
ET also learned that the pair privately reached out to the princess, though it is not clear in what capacity.
