Jughead's life hangs in the balance!
On tonight's penultimate episode of Riverdale, fans were left with a harrowing cliffhanger. In an effort to save the Serpents from a slaughter in the impending war against the Ghoulies, Jughead made a deal with Hiram – aka the mastermind behind Penny Peabody and the Ghoulies' return – and offered his life in exchange for the Serpents' safety.
Fans were forced to watch as dozens of Ghoulies viciously punched and kicked Jughead with unrelenting force, while Penny Peabody watched the attack with a gleeful smile. In the final, haunting scene, FP was seen walking out of Fox Forest while holding the badly bleeding and bruised body of his son.
ET sat down with Riverdale star Skeet Ulrich for an exclusive interview about that heartbreaking final scene, and the 48-year-old actor is revealing the surprisingly hilarious behind-the-scenes story of how he found out his onscreen son's life would be in danger.
ET: This episode ended with a gut-wrenching cliffhanger: FP walking up to Betty and the Serpents holding what looks to be Jughead's lifeless body. When you read that in the script, what was your reaction?
Skeet Ulrich: I hope he diets. [Laughs] I was like, "I wonder how heavy Cole is?" In fact, actually [the Riverdale executive producers] called me and they were like, "Can you carry Cole?" I got a call from the writers' room, like, weeks before they even wrote it, they were like, "Can you carry Cole?" And I was like, "Yeah, I can carry him."
And then they were like, "Well, can you go over to his trailer and send us a picture of you carrying him?" And they actually sent a P.A. to come take video of me picking Cole up. But in terms of reading it, it was traumatic. It's every father's worst nightmare when their kid's being hurt.
The Riverdale fans are probably hyperventilating right now. Should they be worried for Jughead's fate?
Yeah, they should be worried for sure.
