'As usual, we have no idea what he's going to do!'
Get ready to kick off the new year with Ricky Gervais!
The British comedian will be hosting the Golden Globes for the fifth time in January 2020, and now, NBC is giving fans an early first look at what to expect from him when he takes the stage at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles.
During the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday, the network aired this year’s first-ever Golden Globe Awards ceremony promo video. Titled "Champagne," it features Gervais casually reading his lines, until he surprises the camera crew by spraying them with the bubbly.
"As usual, we have no idea what he's going to do," a woman says in a voiceover.
Another promo for the awards show debuted hours later.
It was announced in early November that Gervais would be hosting the annual awards show again, after previously serving as master of ceremonies in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2016.
"Once again, they’ve made me an offer I can’t refuse," said Gervais, who is known for his no-holds-barred humor when it comes to A-list celebrities. “But this is the very last time I’m doing this, which could make for a fun evening."
The 77th Golden Globe Awards (honoring the best in film and American television of 2019, as chosen by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association) air Sunday, Jan. 5 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on NBC. In the meantime, watch the video below for highlights from last year's ceremony.
