The actress fires up a heated debate about whether it's OK to eat the frosty flakes.
Reese Witherspoon is just trying to enjoy her winter festivities in peace. The actress unintentionally set off a debate about the hazards of eating snow after concocting a sweet treat made from freshly fallen powder.
It all started when Witherspoon posted a lighthearted video on TikTok in which she filled a mug with snow to create her own frosty dessert.
"OK so we got a ton of snow over the past few days, we decided to make a recipe," she shared. "So first we scooped the snow into cups and we added salted caramel syrup and chocolate syrup just 'cause we like how they taste together."
She then topped it off with a pour of cold brew coffee to add a "yummy" flavor to the dish, and declared the snack "so good" as she debated what to name her creation. In the end, she settled on "Snow Salt Chococinno."
"Snow days were made for Chococinnos," she captioned the video.
While most of Witherspoon's followers raved over fond memories of making "snow ice cream," one suggested that eating snow could make you "seriously sick" while another wondered what the snow would look like melted in a clear cup.
Witherspoon obliged, melting some snow in a cup and posting her results.
"There's so many people on here saying that snow is dirty," she said. "So we went and took snow from the backyard and we microwaved it and it's clear. Is this bad? Am I not supposed to eat snow?"
After debating it among members of her own circle, Witherspoon returned with updated thoughts on the matter.
"We're kind of in the category of, like, you only live once and it snows maybe once a year here. I dunno," she said.
Doubling down with a laugh, she continued, "Also, I wanna say something. It was delicious. It was so good.
Putting the matter to bed, Witherspoon offered final remarks.
"OK, talking about the snow not being filtered, I didn't grow up drinking filtered water," she said. "We drank out of the tap water. We actually put our mouths on the tap and then sometimes in the summer when it was hot, we drank out of the hose. Like, we put our mouth on the hose growing up. So, filtered water -- I didn't -- maybe that's why I'm like this?"
She continued, "So what you're saying to me is I have to filter the snow before I eat? I just can't! I can't filter snow. I don't know how to do that."
Witherspoon's fun down time at home comes amid a busy season for the 47-year-old star. She recently stepped out with her son, 20-year-old Deacon Phillipe, at the Golden Globe Awards, and then with her daughter, 24-year-old Ava Phillippe, at the Critics Choice Awards in Los Angeles, California.
Meanwhile, production on season four of her hit Apple TV+ series, The Morning Show, is apparently underway, with co-star Jennifer Aniston recently telling ET, "Oh, we've started."
Playing coy, she added, "I don't even know where to begin. Should be fun."
Witherspoon's beloved HBO drama, Big Little Lies, also seems to be gearing up for a return. Nicole Kidman just told ET, "We’ve got a timeline for it now."
