Charles Spencer believes that the press scrutiny around Diana was 'more dangerous' than what Kate Middleton is experiencing.
Princess Diana's brother, Earl Charles Spencer, is speaking out about the ongoing rumors and speculation regarding Kate Middleton's whereabouts and condition.
The 59-year-old Earl of Spencer spoke with U.K. TV program Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg about the current Princess of Wales.
"I do worry about what happened to the truth," Charles says amid the wild online conspiracy theories.
However, Charles doesn't feel that the situation with Prince William's wife is as dangerous as it was for Charles' sister, the late Princess Diana.
"I think it was more dangerous back in the day," he shared. "If I look back to '97 and Diana's death, I think that was so shocking, the circumstances of her death was so shocking that it did make the industry that supports the paparazzi really consider more carefully what it could and couldn't do, not because they had a moral judgement, but because it was unacceptable to the public."
Diana died in a car accident in Paris, France, with her boyfriend, Dodi Fayed, after being chased by paparazzi. She was 36.
Meanwhile, speculation surrounding Kate's condition has intensified since the mother of three went in for a planned abdominal surgery in January. At the time, the Palace chose not to disclose the exact procedure and noted that the princess would not be returning to royal duties until after the Easter holiday.
Earlier this month, in honor of British Mother's Day, Kate released a portrait of herself and her three children — Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5. However, the image only added to the online fodder as several news outlets, including the Associated Press, took it down claiming it was "manipulated."
Kate released an apology on her and William's social media accounts, writing, "Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C."
The confusion has led to a slew of conspiracy theories, including ones of Prince William being allegedly unfaithful to his wife.
The name Rose Hanbury, a previously close friend of Kate's, has been trending on X (formerly Twitter) in the wake of the rumors.
Affair speculation between the future King of England and Rose first surfaced in April 2019 after a U.K. tabloid first sparked the rumor following an alleged fallout between Rose and Kate. It was around that time during an outing when Kate was also seen seemingly giving William's PDA the cold shoulder, which only added fuel to the fire.
