Don't worry fam, On My Block is coming back for season 3!
The fan-favorite teen drama will begin production on its third season later this year, Netflix revealed on Monday. The announcement comes as great news to fans of the show, who were left with a jaw-dropping cliffhanger at the end of season 2, when the gang was breathing a sigh of relief and making plans for the future after washing their hands of the RollerWorld money, only to be snatched off the street in broad daylight.
Stars Sierra Capri, Jason Genao, Brett Gray, Diego Tinoco and Jessica Marie Garcia are all set to return for season 3, with additional casting news to be announced at a later date.
ET spoke with On My Block co-creators and executive producers Eddie Gonzalez and Jeremy Haft -- who will also be returning for season 3 alongside co-creator and showrunner Lauren Iungerich -- ahead of season two's release, when they were still waiting to hear about their pickup but already planning for the new season.
"Obviously to write that ending [for season 2], we have to know where we're going for season three... We have an idea of where we are going," Gonzalez explained. "So to that end, we wrote to this kind of wild and unexpected ending to season two, and that went through a lot of machinations."
"You can't write the end of season two if you don't know where you're going with season three," Haft agreed. "So we have a lot planned, we're really excited."
As for the clues dropped through season 2 that might hint at what's to come for the friends in the coming episodes -- for example, the mention that Monse's father had family ties to the rival Prophets gang -- Haft admitted, "There are some throwaway lines that if you go back and rewatch the series, or rewatch those last several episodes, you can kinda see where we're going. It's obviously better left unsaid right now... but yes, that's exactly what we were aiming to do."
The first two seasons of On My Block are currently streaming on Netflix.
