ET spoke to Kidman at the Los Angeles premiere of their new film, 'The Northman,' Monday night.
Nicole Kidman and Alexander Skarsgård are back together again in The Northman. ET's Cassie DiLaura spoke to Kidman, at the film's Los Angeles premiere Monday, where she opened up about reuniting with her Big Little Lies co-star for the action-packed Viking thriller.
While, this time, they are playing mother and son, the role is just as tumultuous as the abusive husband and wife duo they portrayed in the hit HBO TV series.
Kidman plays Queen Gudrún in the film, Prince Amleth's [Skarsgård] mother, who is kidnapped after his uncle brutally murders her husband and Amleth's father. Two decades later, Amleth is now a Viking, who with the help of a seeress, is reminded of his vow to save his mother, kill his uncle and avenge his father -- and he'll stop at nothing to do just that.
When asked about the pair taking on another volatile role together, Kidman called it "destiny."
"I don't know. I don't know. Destiny," the Being the Ricardos actress admitted, before telling ET that she and Skarsgård are due for a much lighter role -- a sweet romcom perhaps.
"Yes, that's what we were just saying. That has to be the future," Kidman, who attended the premiere with her husband, Keith Urban, said of what's next for her and the Swedish actor. "I've always said, brother and sister next."
As for what Skarsgård told ET about their reunion, The Legend of Tarzan actor said the pair grew "tight" while shooting Big Little Lies, so after seeing the first draft of The Northman, he was sure there was no one more perfect for the role of Queen Gudrún.
"Big Little Lies was an absolutely incredible experience, and we came out of that darkness that was that very -- I mean, it was a very tough shoot, because of the nature of their relationship," Skarsgård began. "To share that experience with Nicole, was a very bonding experience. It demanded so much trust, and we became very tight on that, and basically said, 'Let's find something else.'"
He continued, "And two years later, when we had the first draft of The Northman, we all agreed that Nicole would be the absolute perfect Queen Gudrún. So, we asked, and she said yes, so here we are."
Skarsgård too promised a romcom next from the pair.
"I promise, next time it'll be a romcom, or something lighter," he insisted before nothing that he was on board with Kidman's brother-sister idea. "That's a great idea. A brother-sister road movie. Like, a road trip comedy. Something like that."
The film took the cast and crew through the elements to depict the epic tale, and while it surely was a lot to endure, Kidman called the experience, "extraordinary."
"Actually, extraordinary," Kidman said of shooting in the elements. "Robert Eggers, the director, is such a phenomenal talent. And to be able to be part of cinema, this is such a cinematic experience. And it was just exciting to have the opportunity to go and shoot in the elements. A lot of times, these films are shot with green screens."
She continued, "And so, actually to be on the mountains, in the conditions, at night, freezing cold, with everything authentic around you -- that's a very, very unique experience. So, I hope people like it. It's a great ride, but it's Viking."
The Northman hits theaters April 22.
