Zac Efron and Nicole Kidman's 'A Family Affair' characters find themselves in a romance shocking to her daughter and his assistant.
They're not Jack and Rose, but Zac Efron and Nicole Kidman are playing a couple everyone will be talking about.
On Monday, Netflix released the official trailer for its upcoming rom-com, A Family Affair, starring former The Paperboy co-stars Efron and Kidman, as well as We Were the Lucky Ones' Joey King. In this twist on the age gap romance, 36-year-old Efron plays movie star Chris Cole while 56-year-ld Kidman portrays Brooke, the mother of his assistant, Zara (King).
While Zara describes her boss as "self-absorbed" and "selfish" and anticipates he will hurt her mother in the midst of their "gross sexcapade," according to the trailer, Chris and Brooke seem to fall hard for each other, expectedly making matters even more complicated for these three.
"A surprising romance kicks off comic consequences," Netflix describes, "for a young woman, her mother and her movie star boss as they face the complications of love, sex, and identity."
Liza Koshy and Kathy Bates also star in the film, with Bates cast as Brooke's mom. "What good am I," Bates' character asks in the trailer, "if I can't convince my granddaughter to let BuzzFeed's hunkiest brunette come for Christmas?"
As King said of the movie in an Instagram post, "All I can say is... it's the love story you never knew you needed."
The movie is already drawing comparisons to the Prime Video hit streaming rom-com, The Idea of You, featuring Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine in an age gap romance between a pop star and a mom who meet at a music festival she attends with her daughter.
A Family Affair is available to stream June 28 on Netflix.
