Nicola Coughlan Reveals the 'Bridgerton' Set Piece She and Luke Newton Broke While Filming

'Bridgerton's Nicola Coughlan posted a photo to Instagram showing the piece she and Luke Newton broke while filming.

Things got a little too intense for Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton while they filmed season 3 of Bridgerton

Following the highly anticipated release of Bridgerton Season 3, Part 2 on June 13, Coughlan, who stars as Penelope Featherington, delighted fans by sharing behind-the-scenes photos on Instagram. The photos feature her co-star and on-screen love interest, Newton, who plays Colin Bridgerton, after they filmed a scene.

The particularly eye-catching photo shows Coughlan and Newton posing beside a daybed. However, another photo reveals that the bed frame is actually broken -- a callback to a particularly spicy scene from the couple's Bridgerton series book, Romancing Mr. Bridgerton.

In the caption accompanying her post, Coughlan wrote, "Part Two is out now, we put our heart and souls into it, hope you love watching it as much as we loved filming it."

While Coughlan has been a part of the Shonda Rhimes series from the beginning, this season focuses on her and Newton’s characters and features plenty of racy scenes.

The Derry Girls star has been candid in the past about embracing her sexuality and being willing to go nude for the Regency-era drama.

"I specifically asked for certain lines and moments to be included," Coughlan told Stylist in a recent interview, per People. "There's one scene where I'm very naked on camera, and that was my idea, my choice."

Coughlan added that the decision had everything to do with the commentary she's received for her body type.

"It just felt like the biggest 'f**k you' to all the conversation surrounding my body," she candidly expressed. "It was amazingly empowering. I felt beautiful in the moment, and I thought: 'When I'm 80, I want to look back on this and remember how f**king hot I looked!'"

ET spoke to the Bridgerton stars in February at a Valentine's Day celebration in London, and they reacted to leading the upcoming third season of the hit Netflix series.

"They were babies in the first season," Coughlan told ET of her character and that of her onscreen love interest, Newton. "... It was very intimidating to step in that mantle of the romantic."

Newton agreed, but said that counting Coughlan as a real-life friend made their new job easier.

"I feel like there's always that question being asked of, is it easier to do the intimacy scenes or the more romantic scenes with someone who is your friend of four years or someone you just met for one day? I can safely say it's easier with a friend," he said. "There really is that sort of support."

"It's scary going in, but then, thankfully, we have a really good relationship, so we can talk about it, and we can laugh about it when we need to," Coughlan added. "It made it scary, but a lot better."

As for why Penelope and Colin are a perfect couple, Coughlan noted, "They both feel like the overlooked sibling in their families, so to finally have them step into the fortune, it's a pretty big change."

The fans agree, with Coughlan explaining, "I think a lot of people see themselves in these characters, because they're like the two misfits, people who don't feel quite right. feel unseen."

The first half of the season premiered on Netflix on May 16, followed by the release of the remaining episodes on June 13.
