Nick Carter has broken his silence following the sudden death of his sister, Bobbie Jean Carter.
The Backstreet Boys singer took to Instagram on Thursday to share that he is heartbroken about yet another tragedy the Carters are enduring, noting that it may take him "a lifetime to fully process." Bobbie Jean died on Dec. 23 in Florida. She was 41. She left behind an 8-year-old daughter, Bella. The cause of death is not known.
"It may take a lifetime to fully process the loss my family has endured over the years -- most recently, with the sudden passing of our sister Bobbie Jean," the singer wrote in his caption to a post featuring a throwback photo. "I am completely heartbroken. Thank you for all your love and kind words. We are reminded again that life is precious, fleeting and to cherish the time we have with the ones we love. I know she is finally at peace with God. I love you BJ."
A source close to the Carter family recently told ET that Bobbie Jean's family is "sharing responsibility" for Bella.
"Bobbie Jean Carter's daughter, Bella, is in the care of her late father's sister and staying with her after passing of her mother," the source said, with a second source adding, "The family is sharing responsibility helping with Bella and she is currently with her aunt."
In a statement to TMZ, Bobbie Jean's mother, Jane Carter, confirmed her daughter's death.
It's not the first tragedy Jane has faced. Her daughter, Leslie Carter, died in 2012, and her son, "I Want Candy" singer Aaron Carter, died last year.
"I am in shock from learning of the sudden death of my daughter, Bobbie Jean; and I will need time to process the terrible reality of this happening for the third time," Jane told the outlet. "When I am able to think clearly, I'll release a fuller statement; but until then I would request to be left to grieve in private."
Following Aaron's death, Nick spoke to ET and shared how the family is still coping with his death.
"It's definitely been tough for me and my family," Nick told ET. "It is still something that we are still processing, to this day. I don't think we will ever really get over it. It's been a lot for us, and we are finding ways to try and take a really tragic situation in our family and do something with it."
