Nicholas Galitzine plays boy bander Hayes Campbell in 'The Idea of You,' based off the popular book of the same name.
Nicholas Galitzine is taking the source material for The Idea of You… as it was. The 29-year-old British actor who plays boy bander Hayes Campbell in the film opposite Anne Hathaway's Solène, was directly asked about the rumored inspiration behind the film which is based off the popular novel of the same name by Robin Lee.
During a Variety Actors on Actors discussion with fellow Brit Leo Woodall, Galitzine briefly mentions The Idea of You.
"The one where you played Harry Styles?" Woodall teases him.
"Deny, deny, deny, deny!" Galitzine quips, laughing and changing the subject.
Styles, who got his start in the hit boy band One Direction, has been widely rumored to be the inspiration behind Galitzine's Hayes.
The film follows the May-December romance between Galitzine and Hathaway's characters after they meet at the Coachella Music Festival.
Galitzine's character Hayes performs in the popular boy band August Moon. Back in May, the actor opened up to ET about the inspiration behind the role.
"I'm not a dancer," Galitzine told ET at the time, noting that his biggest challenge was "having to learn that and also being beside four professional dancers."
Galitzine shared that he took inspiration from groups like K-pop megastars BTS -- "they have this amazing choreography, but sort of a nonchalance in their sort of performance" -- but emphasized that what really made August Moon come together was "establishing the chemistry with the other lads."
"We all stayed in the same hotel. We had a lot of game nights playing Mario Kart," he recalled of the filming experience. "It's just spending time with each other and creating that very sort of palpable friendship with each other. It's all those little moments onstage that you see between them that I think really sells it."
The Idea of You is out on Prime Video now.
