These have got to win some kind of award
Ricky Gervais should probably keep his day job of mocking fellow celebrities rather than trying to impersonate them.
When the 54-year-old comedian appeared on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon Friday, Fallon pointed out that many of the stars in Gervais' new movie, Special Correspondents, changed their accents for the film. Gervais, however, kept his British accent.
"It’s not that I can't [do different accents]," the three-time Golden Globe winner explained. "I just can't be bothered. I'm a brilliant impressionist."
Gervais then claimed that he could "break the record" for the most celebrity impressions in a short amount of time.
Fallon took him up on the challenge, quickly naming famous people over the course of 30 seconds. Gervais replied with some of their most well-known phrases, including Robert De Niro's "You lookin' at me?" line from Taxi Driver and Arnold Schwarzenneger's infamous Terminator phrase. The "brilliant impressionist" said each line identical to the other, uttering them in a high-pitched British falsetto.
"A world record!" Fallon proclaimed after they finished, unable to contain his laughter. Watch the impersonation game go down in the video below:
While Gervais has a ways to go, Fallon has had plenty of actors and singers come on his show who can do stellar impressions. Check out Demi Lovato doing a much more accurate impression of Christina Aguilera when she appeared on the late night talk show in February.
