What's Schmidt like as a stay-at-home dad? ET has the answer in a first look from Tuesday's final season premiere.
The farewell to New Girl is upon us.
Fox's adorkable comedy returns for its final season on Tuesday, three years after the events of the sixth season finale, and things have changed drastically for Jess and the crew.
Nick is a published YA author coming off a successful European book tour with an unemployed Jess; Schmidt, a stay-at-home dad, and Cece, a modeling agent, are parents to an adorable 3-year-old daughter; and Winston and Aly are now married, living together and expecting their first child.
In ET's exclusive sneak peek from the premiere, Cece and Schmidt are getting their daughter, Ruth Bader Parikh Schmidt, ready for her 3rd birthday party. Of course, things don't go according to plan when Cece asks Ruth to repeat her standardized response when partygoers ask how old she's turning.
"Daddy's butt!" Ruth yells out instead. "Close enough," Cece replies, before Schmidt swoops in to take over hair-braiding because he thinks they look too much like "dock ropes." When Ruth requests that Schmidt do the "special braids," he immediately knows what she's talking about. Watch the exclusive clip below to see what happens next.
Max Greenfield recently spoke to ET about filming the final eight episodes of the series and shared that his post-New Girl plans are to "to be a dad for a while,"
“It was sort of bittersweet, you know?” he told ET in March of wrapping the series. “I mean, it's been seven years. I don't think there were many more stories to tell. But to say goodbye to a show and the people that you worked with for a really long time is difficult, and then you're, like, tasked with finding something new and going, Oh man!”
New Girl returns for its seventh and final season Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.
