"Social media and specifically Facebook has helped myself and other artists bridge the gap between the stage and the audience."
When it comes to Shakira's fans, their devotion doesn't lie.
Shakira has officially become the most liked person on Facebook with 100 million "likes" on her page. Not only is she now the most likeable woman in the world, she's also the first person to ever hit this milestone on the site. The occasion was acknowledged by Guinness World Records on Friday and marked with a special post on its website.
Shakira tops her pop diva contemporaries including Rihanna (89M likes), Katy Perry (72M likes), Beyonce (63M likes), Britney Spears (41M likes) and her fellow The Voice coach Christina Aguilera (24M likes).

"I am honored and humbled about reaching this milestone, because it's one that's purely about connecting with my fans from all parts of the globe," the Colombian beauty said in a statement. "Social media and specifically Facebook has helped myself and other artists bridge the gap between the stage and the audience. We've been able to create a conversation, where both artists and fans can share with one another their thoughts, achievements, the most important moments of their lives in photographs and videos, and have a real ongoing dialogue."
Could this be the post that put Shakira over the edge? The 37-year-old posted this photo on July 12 from inside the Maracana Stadium and Rio, Brazil just before her performance at the 2014 FIFA World Cup closing ceremony. The pic has more than 3.6 million likes, making it Shakira's most liked Facebook post to date.
According to Facebook's VP of Global Operations and Media, Justin Osofsky, Shakira's "global appeal, her authentic engagement with fans and her use of Facebook as a multi-media platform" all combined to create the perfect recipe for social media success.
