Shia plays the title character in the film, who heads to Bucharest as directed by a vision from his late mother. When his fellow passenger dies right next to him during the flight, his life takes yet another direction that leads him into the arms of a beautiful musician (Evan Rachel Wood). But complications quickly arise when her complicated past – in the form of a vicious gangster played by Mads Mikkelsen – arises to lay claim to her. Inspired by love, Charlie is determined to protect her and enters into the hallucinatory, Romanian underworld filled with violence and excitement.
