‘The View’ co-host opened up to Stephen Colbert about her politician dad.
Meghan McCain is excited for her dad John McCain’s progress. The 81-year-old Arizona senator has been fighting a Stage 4 brain tumor, and she opened up about it on Thursday night’s The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.
“He’s doing really well. It’s a really scary cancer. It’s a really, really scary cancer,” she said. “My family’s no different than any other family who has experience with cancer.”
She added that her father went through a “rough time” at Christmas, noting that he has since “made this crazy amazing recovery.”
“I guess I shouldn’t be surprised because he is so resilient in so many different ways,” she added. “He’s a tough bastard. I hope he comes back to Washington soon, because I would like to see him go up against Trump a little more.”
Just before the holidays, Meghan spoke with former Vice President Joe Biden on The View about his late son, Beau Biden, who passed away from the same cancer as Senator McCain.
“There’s something about Joe Biden that if he ends up running for president, I am totally f**ked because I love him,” the longtime conservative told Colbert. “And he’s such a warm, wonderful man. And I can call him at any time when I’m feeling overwhelmed by cancer. I can’t express to you and to everyone here what his support and his love of him and his family has meant to me. Cancer’s scary, and having someone like him who’s been through so much tragedy to empathize and give his time, especially because he’s one of the most powerful people on the planet.”
Colbert asked if Biden’s potential presidential run would make her “Democrat curious.”
“I disagree with his politics like 75 percent, but I have cried to him on multiple occasions about cancer, so I would have a very, very difficult time,” Meghan admitted. “And he’s never talked crap about my dad’s service, so that gives him a leg up.”
