Maren Morris opens up about her sexuality in a social media post celebrating Pride month.
Maren Morris is celebrating Pride Month by coming out as bisexual. The 34-year-old singer spoke out in a post on social media months after finalizing her divorce from Ryan Hurd.
The "My Church" songstress shared a collection of photos from her recent RSVP Redux Tour show in Phoenix, Arizona, on Instagram, where she proudly waved a rainbow flag on stage. Morris stunned in a sheer, ruffled top with a black bra underneath and a pair of black pants.
"Happy to be the B in LGBTQ+," she captioned the post. "Happy pride 🌈"
Taking place every June, Pride Month celebrates the self-affirmation, dignity, equality and increased visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. The month-long celebration was given the name "Pride" to encourage those feelings as the community comes together to celebrate and bolster LGBTQ+ rights movements. The acronym stands for "lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning" and a number of other terms spanning a wide spectrum of sexuality.
When ET last spoke to Morris in December, the artist said she was looking ahead to "a really empowering 2024" as she focused on putting herself first. She also noted that she was working through changes in her personal life through music as she transitions away from the business side of the country music industry.
"Elementally every sort of genre has been within me but country music is there forever, it's what I grew up on so you can't really scrub it out," she said of her next album.
Regarding her inspiration, she added, "Just a lot of personal stuff right now I'm wading through, processing, writing through. I'm giving myself the time to do that and not having to rush a very huge personal thing through an album being delivered. It's gonna take a little bit longer than I hoped but I have to trust the process."
Morris filed for divorce from Hurd in October citing "irreconcilable differences." The former couple was married for five years after meeting in 2014 during a writing session for Tim McGraw.
A Tennessee judge finalized Morris and Hurd's divorce in late January. According to court documents obtained by ET, the exes agreed to share custody of their 4-year son, Hayes.
In her interview with ET, Morris chuckled when asked about being "single and ready to mingle" this year.
"Not mingle, but yeah, we'll see," she replied.
Morris recently released a two-track EP, titled The Bridge, which includes new songs "The Tree" and "Get the Hell Out of Here." The former was produced by pop music luminary Greg Kurstin and the latter by frequent Taylor Swift collaborator Jack Antonoff.
The drop came after Morris announced her "hyperbolic" intention to distance herself from country music, with the star explaining that she asked for her music to not be considered for potential nominations on the country music awards circuit. Morris has also officially transitioned to Columbia Records from the label's Nashville division.
Speaking with ET, Morris admitted that she didn't always picture herself as a changemaker in the industry.
"It wasn't, you know, as a 10-year-old, my dream to be, like, this maker of change or activist," she admitted. "I think it was a byproduct of just being in an industry where it's predominantly white males. Even if you succeed as a woman in it there's a lot of strictures and barriers that -- you know, you only let like a few women in at a time and a certain year -- so I think just pushing back against that naturally is like a rebellious nature within me."
