Lauren Alaina Says She Wants to Host 'American Idol' (Exclusive)

Lauren Alaina, who competed on 'American Idol' season 10, tells ET that she'd rather host than judge the singing competition.

Lauren Alaina is willing to take over a gig on American Idol -- but not Katy Perry's seat at the judges' table!

ET's Nischelle Turner and Rachel Smith spoke with the 29-year-old country music star -- who broke out after finishing as the runner-up on Idol's 10th season -- at Nashville's Chevy Riverfront Stage ahead of her CMA Fest performance on Thursday. She shared that while she's "so busy" at the moment, she might one day be down to join pal Luke Bryan on the singing competition following Perry's departure.

"I would really love that, but I think I might have a hard time, like, critiquing people," Alaina reflected. "I'd rather host it when Ryan Seacrest departs. They could call me!"

For now, Alaina is focused on her own music -- agreeing that she's in her "happy girl era" after tying the knot with husband Cam Arnold in February.

"It's the best," she said of married life. "I still love him and I like him. I love him a little more than I like him... He's my best friend for real. I got very lucky."

However, Alaina said before tying the knot she had one last breakup song to write.

"What's so funny is, I wrote a song for my husband called 'Breaking Up With Single,' and I actually walked down the aisle to it," she shared. "It'll be on the new album."

"I literally was like, I don't know how to write anything but breakup songs and now I'm in love -- what am I gonna do?" she recalled with a laugh. "I'm gonna have to learn how to write a whole new style of music -- 'cause I've written some breakup songs, honey."

Professional worries aside, Alaina told ET that her big day went off without a hitch.

"It was the best day of my life," she marveled. "Nothing went wrong, nobody in my family fought. I prayed about that. You know how families are when you get them all in the same building."

And now, she's ready to party with her country music family at CMA Fest, the annual fan experience in Nashville which features performances by the biggest names in the genre.

"It's so up close and personal with the fans," she said. "They cram in here -- there will be so many people. I play it just about every year, so I'm excited."

Alaina will be performing at CMA Fest's Chevy Riverfront Stage when CMA Fest kicks off Thursday, June 6. Other performers on the stage include Megan Moroney, Breland, Brian Kelley and Gavin DeGraw.
