This is Witherspoon's third project with Apple.
Kristen Wiig is returning to TV!
The 44-year-old actress will produce and star in a half-hour comedy series picked up by Apple, ET confirms. The show marks Wiig's return to television after leaving Saturday Night Live in 2012. Wiig earned three Supporting Actress in a Comedy Emmy nominations for her work on the show.
Wiig's new series, inspired by Curtis Sittenfeld's upcoming short story collection, You Think It, I'll Say It, is produced by Reese Witherspoon's production company, Hello Sunshine. Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter will executive produce, alongside Wiig and creator and showrunner Colleen McGuinness (30 Rock). Sittenfeld will serve as consulting producer.
This is the third project Apple has ordered from Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine, including the Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston-starring drama about a morning show which received a two-season pickup in November, and the Octavia Spencer-starring Are You Sleeping.
Witherspoon took to Instagram to celebrate the news on Wednesday, writing, "Total dream come true ? to be working with Kristen Wiig on a comedy for @Apple. Based on an awesome book by #CurtisSittenfeld, written by #ColleenMcGuinness... and there might be a special guest appearance by someone you know ?? because #FOMO is real! @HelloSunshine (?: @maryellenmatthewsnyc)."
