Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard wed in 2013 and share two daughters, Lincoln and Delta.
Lust came before love for Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard.
On Wednesday's episode of SiriusXM's Where Everybody Knows Your Name with Ted Danson & Woody Harrelson (Sometimes), Ted Danson introduces Bell to his co-host, Woody Harrelson, and the three discuss Bell's first (and second) meet cute with hubby Shepard -- and the moment she knew he wanted to "f**k" her.
"I was chewing gum and he said, 'Do you have any more gum?' and I said, 'No, just this,' and I kind of coyly took it out of my mouth like this," Bell said of her second interaction with Shepard. "And he grabbed it from me, and he goes, 'I'll take it,' and then he put it in his mouth, and I was like, 'This guy wants to f**k me.'"
"Yeah. It's on," Harrelson chimed in.
At the time, Bell was "fresh on the scene" and "ready to mingle," having just gotten out of a relationship. So, when she saw that her friend was at the same L.A. Kings vs. Detroit Red Wings hockey game she was at, she had every intention of flirting with him. He just happened to be there with her future husband.
"I knew Michael and I was like, 'All right, we're, we're back on the, we're single. We haven't been single in years. This is gonna be great. I'm gonna go over and flirt with Michael,'" she continued on the podcast. "Thank god, Michael, because it, you know, made the rest of my life. Michael had something else to do and was talking to someone else and Dax came up to me and I was like, 'Oh, you were at Shauna's dinner,' and he was like, 'Yeah, that's right. I remember you vaguely.'"
The pair -- who wed in October 2013 and share daughters Lincoln, 11, and Delta, 9 -- officially met a few weeks beforehand at producer Shauna Robertson's small sushi birthday dinner in 2007.
"All I remember from that night was that guy from Jackass talks so much," Bell said. "Whoa, he's chatty and he didn't know who I was either and obviously he was not on Jackass, he was on Punk’d, but I didn't know that at the time, and then we had no chemistry that night."
Although it may not have been love at first sight for the two, Bell, 43, did admit that she thought Shepard, 49, was handsome.
"He has a presence," she said. "A protectiveness and he has very broad shoulders. He's like an upside down triangle, but my main takeaway was that he was chatty."
Since Bell and Shepard reconnected at the hockey game and swapped gum, the rest is history.
The actors celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary in October. In November 2022, the Frozen star dished to ET about the secret to their lasting love.
"Stay vulnerable," Bell shared. "At least my secret. You've gotta be vulnerable -- we have to be vulnerable when we don't want to be. That's what works for us."
She told ET in September 2023 that "common goals" with your partner is key to a healthy relationship.
"Common goals, seek them out. Our kids are a common goal, right?" she said. "People are like, 'Oh, I wouldn't be able to work with my husband or wife or partner.' For me, I want another common goal with him. I respect him so much creatively. I have so much trust in him. Of course I want him to be my director or my scene partner."
New episodes of SiriusXM’s Where Everybody Knows Your Name premiere every Wednesday on the SiriusXM app and wherever podcasts are available.
