Kim Kardashian has officially added yet another headline-making look to Met Gala history.
After more than a decade of being a guest, Kim Kardashian has mastered the Met Gala carpet -- and her 2024 look is proof.
The mogul showed up on the carpet of the Met Gala in a stunning silver look with a cinched waist that left social media talking Monday evening. The outfit comprised of a silver bodysuit with a sheer tail and a grayish wrap to cover up one shoulder. The lower half of the gown was completed with fringe in the shape of leaves to match the theme of the event.
She spoke with Vogue on the carpet and summed up the look succinctly, describing it as a garden-inspired ensemble with a touch of bougie.
"This is like -- what did we say -- [I] had the wildest night of my life in a garden and I just ran out and grabbed my boyfriend's sweater and threw it on and had to get to work," she said, laughing. "And my hair is all messed up."
For her hair and makeup, Kim sported tousled blonde locks and a bronzed and beautiful airbrushed look to accentuate the focal point of the outfit -- the dress and her waist. The outfit also helped to pull the focus off of getting booed during Sunday night's Tom Brady roast, where the crowd met her with jeers as she delivered a toast.
Ever since she first appeared at the star-studded event back in 2013 -- pregnant and alongside then-boyfriend Kanye West in floral-print Givenchy -- the 43-year-old mom of four has been making a splash on the signature stairs of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The reality star really seemed to hit her sartorial stride -- and turned Met Gala dressing into somewhat of an Olympic sport -- in 2019 when she took corseting to the extreme in a custom Thierry Mugler dress designed to evoke the image of her dripping wet and emerging from the ocean, a perfect fit for that year's theme, "Camp: Notes on Fashion." There was no denying she was committed to the look: Kardashian was so constricted by the ensemble, she was prepared to pee herself since she could not go to the bathroom, and had trouble breathing and sitting.
After the gala's hiatus in 2020 amid the coronavirus pandemic, Kardashian returned to the carpet in extremely bold fashion the following year, donning a black Balenciaga ensemble that completely covered her from head to toe.
Just when fans might have thought she could not push the envelope any further, the SKIMS founder stepped out onto the red carpet in 2022 wearing Marilyn Monroe's iconic glittering nude gown from 1962 -- yes, the one the Hollywood icon wore to sing "Happy Birthday" to President John F. Kennedy.
Kardashian was not shy about her fierce quest to wear the artifact, which is owned by Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Museum, if only for a few minutes on the steps to the museum. In the hopes of fitting into the dress, she cut calories and wore a sauna suit twice daily among her other protocol. To fully transform, she spent 14 hours dyeing her hair platinum blonde.
After all, every time the committed star attends the gala, she fulfills a longtime fantasy all over again.
"I used to dream about this night," she told Vogue in 2019. "I used to sit home in bed on my computer looking at all of the pictures of everyone, dreaming one day that I could ever attend a Met Ball and never even really believing that that would ever happen."
