The actor and comedian was honored with a hand and footprint ceremony in Hollywood, California, on Tuesday. Afterwards, he took to social media to look back at a challenging year, which saw him deal with having to step down from hosting the 2019 Oscars, then face a life-changing car accident in September.
“Words can’t explain my emotion right now...2019 has been a hell of a year for me,” he captioned a slideshow of images from the ceremony. “I appreciate the Ups & the downs...to be honest I appreciate the downs so f***ng much because they help build character.”
“My appreciation for life is the highest that it’s ever been,” he continued. “I am forever a work in progress...I’m always looking for ways to improve or better myself...the best way to receive anything is to be willing to listen & accept or learn....I am all of the above.”
Hart, 40, then expressed how thankful he is for his friends, family, costars and fans, making special mention of his immediate family.
“Mom I hope I am making you proud,” he wrote. “Dad I love you...40 G’s you’re the best big brother on the planet....Niko you’re my everything...Kids I do it all for you....PCB you are my ride or dies....God you are my EVERYTHING!!!!! Hands & Feet are in the Concrete.”
“Thank you to my brothers @therock & Will Ferrell....I love and admire you both!!!!!! P.S @karengillanofficial you rock for coming out...I loves ya," he continued, shouting out friends including his Jumanji: The Next Level co-stars. "Thank you to all of my studio partners that came out as well. I truly appreciate you all....Looking forward to an amazing 2020 because I just closed 2019 out with a Big Bang!!!!!”
ET caught up with Hart the night before the ceremony at Monday’s Jumanji: The Next Level premiere, where he couldn’t contain how thrilled he was about the honor.
"I'm very excited man! It's a big deal," he said.
"I'm so happy and so proud of him," added Johnson, who had his own hand and footprint ceremony in 2015. "I have the privilege of speaking on his behalf tomorrow and I can't wait."
"I did have the honor of having it done and, not to mess with him, but I know how cool it is and I'm so happy that he's experiencing it," Johnson added. "This is a great Christmas. It's a great holiday … I'm so happy to celebrate my guy."
The event comes following a challenging year for Hart.
After landing a dream gig of hosting the 2019 Oscars, he stepped down from the role after old and offensive comments he had tweeted -- and apologized for -- in the past, resurfaced.
He was then involved in a near-fatal car accident in September, which saw him suffering extensive back injuries.
His struggles are documented in his upcoming six-part Netflix docu-series, Don’t F**k This Up, releasing on Dec. 27.
