The singer returned as the show's host for her second year in a row and wowed the audience with her natural charm and joy.
Leave it to Kelly Clarkson to follow up Taylor Swift's 2019 Billboard Music Awards opening number with a music monologue that was just as delightful.
The Voice coach and pop superstar took the stage at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Wednesday as master of ceremonies for the night's festivities, and she set the tone with a fun, lighthearted music medley.
To segue into her performance, Clarkson poked fun at how she was confused for a seat filler at the ACMs earlier this year. As she sat next to Terry Crews in the audience, a security guard (played perfectly by Rob Gronkowski) asked her to move so Florida Georgia Line could have the seats.
A faux-offended Clarkson proved she was really herself by belting out an epic, over-the-top medley of songs nominated at this year's show, starting with Florida Georgia Line's "Meant to Be" and also including Maroon 5's "Girls Like You," Maren Morris and Zedd's "The Middle," Cardi B, Bad Bunny and J Balvin's collab "I Like It," and many others.
This is the second year in a row that Clarkson hosted the BBMAs, and it's clear she's adapted quickly to the role of an awards-show host, as she had no trouble letting her natural charisma and friendliness carry her through her monologue.
However, Clarkson's duties this year don't end at simply hosting! The singer will also be taking to the stage later in the show to perform her new song, "Broken and Beautiful," from the soundtrack to her upcoming animated family comedy, UglyDolls.
Clarkson delivered the debut televised performance of the single during The Voice on Tuesday, where she tore the roof off the theater with the powerful number.
