Kel Mitchell Teases Taking 'Good Burger 3' to Space (Exclusive)

A sequel to the beloved Nickelodeon comedy was released in 2023 -- what's next for the franchise?

Kel Mitchell is ready to take the Good Burger franchise out of this world!

ET's Deidre Behar spoke with the actor and comedian at the 2024 Kids' Choice Awards over the weekend, where he opened up about reuniting with Kenan Thompson for the 2023 sequel to their beloved 1997 comedy -- which was inspired by a sketch the duo performed on the Nickelodeon series, All That

"We're chatting about a lot of things," Mitchell said of his renewed creative partnership with Thompson."We got some more fun things coming up as far as films are concerned."

So, where could a possible Good Burger 3 take the duo?

"At the end of part 2, I was talking about going to space -- so we're trying to get our Vin Diesel on," Mitchell shared with a laugh. "We're trying to go everywhere, you know what I mean? Fast and furious."

While "Kenan and Kel" -- as the duo have been known for decades at this point -- were renowned for their comedic partnership as young performers, Mitchell recently opened up about how the pair fell out as adults.

In an interview on Shannon Sharpe's Club Shay Shay podcast earlier this year, Mitchell dispelled the rumors that the pair's rift was sparked by Thompson being cast on Saturday Night Live during a year when both he and Mitchell auditioned. According to Mitchell, the pair had drifted apart long before that.

"When people watch us on television, they're thinking, 'Oh, this is his brother. They must hang out all the time,' but this is a job," Mitchell said at the time. "I don't look at it as, I was upset at my boy -- that wasn't what it was. What was really going on was what was happening behind the scenes."

Stress, depression, and substance abuse led Mitchell to his lowest, but after turning his life around, he's happy to share his story of recovery and returning to what he loves most.

"My main thing is, I always be transparent and to help others to know that sometimes you go through things in life, but it makes you who you are," he noted. "It's a part of a journey. Enjoy the journey. It's all love."

That sentiment even extends to his repaired relationship with Thompson, Mitchell marveled.

"It's beautiful," he shared. "We're dads, we've got this amazing journey working together, and also being good friends as well, so it's just beautiful, man. It's a real brotherhood, and I enjoy that."

In fact, Mitchell was joined at this year's Kids' Choice Awards by his wife, Asia Lee, and their children, Wisdom, 6, and Honor, 4. He said bringing his own children to the fun and family-focused awards was a sweet full-circle moment.

"It’s an awesome thing to be here with my kids," he raved. "I was a kid coming here to the Kids' Choice Awards, so it’s awesome to experience this with the family... It's a blessing."

Good Burger and Good Burger 2 are streaming now on Paramount+.
