The trends have certainly changed since 2001.
Katherine Schwarzenegger was apparently not feeling very festive on the first Monday in May.
The 34-year-old author seemed to throw shade at the 2024 Met Gala earlier this week, reposting a throwback image of her mother and grandparents attending the event in 2001 with a pointed caption.
"When the met gala was chic and classy," she wrote on her Instagram Story.
In the photo, Maria Shriver wears a light purple gown as she poses alongside her parents, Robert "Sargent" Shriver and Eunice Kennedy Shriver.
It was Shriver who first posted the image in a carousel on her Instagram timeline.
"It’s the first Monday in May and the Met Gala is underway!" she wrote in a caption. "Things were a little more low key when I attended back in 2001, but I thought I would share some photos from that wonderful night. Not only did I get to wear this beautiful dress, but I got to attend with both my parents, as well as my cousin, Caroline. What do you think: would we rock the red carpet in these same looks tonight? #metgalaflashback"
The modest ensembles were certainly a far cry from many of the dramatic, high-fashion looks that graced Monday's Met Gala red carpet. The 2024 celebration featured a Garden of Time dress code, bringing out a wide array of floral-inspired outfits.
Among the style standouts was Zendaya -- one of the evening's co-chairs alongside Anna Wintour, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny and Chris Hemsworth -- in not one, not two, but three gorgeous gowns. Kim Kardashian, meanwhile, made waves with her shockingly slim corseted look and Teyana Taylor pulled out her very own burlesque costume from the closet for the occasion.

These days, Schwarzenegger is busy raising her two daughters -- 3-year-old Lyla Maria, and Eloise Christina, who turns two this month -- with husband Chris Pratt. The Guardians of the Galaxy actor is also a father to 11-year-old son Jack, whom he shares with ex-wife Anna Faris.
In honor of Mother's Day, Schwarzenegger recently enlisted her own mama for a special edition of her Before, During and After Baby series, titled "The Grandmother Project."
Last year, Schwarzenegger opened up to ET about watching her parents -- including 76-year-old dad Arnold Schwarzenegger -- step graceful into their roles as grandparents.
"I'm so lucky with my whole family and how they've all stepped into these roles as aunts and uncles and, you know, my parents are grandparents," she explained. "My mom and my dad are both amazing grandparents to my girls and to see them all here now is so special."
She also acknowledged her ongoing admiration for 68-year-old Shriver, in particular.
"I always watched my mom, growing up, just being the epitome of strength, class, beauty, resilience, and she always had fun as a mom," she reflected. "She’s an incredible mom, incredible wife, daughter, friend, everything."
"To this day I just am in awe of my mom constantly," she added. "I think she is just incredible and I strive to be a little bit like her all the time. I ask her for advice on parenting 100 times a day."
