Kate Hudson knows how to throw a great last-minute birthday party!
The Almost Famous star celebrated her 40th birthday by throwing herself a fabulous pizza party at her Pacific Palisades, California, home on Friday night. Hudson's longtime friend Derek Blasberg took to Instagram on Saturday to share how the birthday girl pulled off the spontaneous party without a hitch.
"After vacillating whether or not to do a birthday party for -- hmm -- about six months, yesterday morning @katehudson finally relented and let her friends take over her house, install a pizza oven and tequila bar, and celebrate her big 4-0," Blasberg wrote alongside photos of Hudson, Danny Fujikawa and Goldie Hawn having a blast. "It was spontaneous and bohemian and fun and fabulous, just like the birthday girl. And everyone had a finger-licking good time, just like her mom. ????♀️."
Blasberg also shared Instagram Stories of Hudson making pizzas from scratch, while stylist Jamie Mizrahi posted a group pic from the party that included Hudson, Hawn, Oliver Hudson, Sara Foster, Eric Foster, Kurt Russell, Michael Kives and more.
Other partygoers also included Reese Witherspoon, Orlando Bloom, Johnny Knoxville, Rachel Zoe, Erin Foster and Leonardo DiCaprio, who were spotted arriving to Hudson's home.
As for Hudson, the birthday girl posted a photo of herself with her three children -- sons Ryder, 15, Bingham, 7, and daughter Rani, 6 months -- captioning the shot: "My wishes came true ? Thank you for all the love today ❤️?❤️ #ThisIs40."
ET spoke with the mother of three last month, where she teased her big 40th birthday bash, jokingly telling Keltie Knight that it was just going to be "fun, just fun."
