In court documents obtained by ET, William Wilson alleges the 25-year-old singer was pulling out of a driveway at the Saban Theater in Beverly Hills, California, on July 26, 2017, and struck him with his truck when he was standing off to the passenger side of Bieber's truck at the time. Wilson alleges that because of Bieber's "negligence," he has suffered and continues to suffer "injuries to his health, strength and activity."
Wilson is asking the court for unspecified damages (in an amount to be proven at trial), compensation for medical and related expenses, compensation for loss of earnings and reduced earning capacity, and for the cost of the lawsuit.
A rep for Bieber did not reply to a request for comment.
A spokesperson for the Beverly Hills Police Department told ET at the time of the incident that Bieber remained on the scene and was fully cooperative with law enforcement after striking a pedestrian while leaving The City Church service in Beverly Hills. At 9:24 p.m. on July 26, 2017, police were notified that a 57-year-old male was on the ground complaining of injuries to his leg after a traffic collision. "He was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries," the spokesperson noted.
Wilson, who was initially named as Maurice Lamont but identified as Wilson in legal documents, took to Instagram a day later and gave an update on his recovery.
"OK. Shotgetter's hanging in there everybody. Hour before my birthday hits I get ran over by Justin Bieber," he said in a video. "Isn't that something? He's a good kid though. I think the truck was a little bit too big for him though 'cause there's no way he could see over the front."
"But like I said, he got out, he was compassionate, he's a good kid, accidents happen," Wilson added. "Hopefully everything works out here. Getting ready to go into the x-rays right now."
