Joy-Anna Duggar Says She Rushed Her 13-Month-Old Son Gunner to Hospital After Scary Choking Incident

Joy-Anna Duggar posted an emotional video detailing her trip to the hospital after her 13-month-old son, Gunner, choked on food.

Joy-Anna Duggar and husband Austin Forsyth shared a traumatic incident that happened to their 13-month-old son, Gunner, last week.

The former Counting On star recalled the harrowing experience in a YouTube video posted on Friday. Gunner had "bitten off more than he could chew" during a family meal and immediately started choking," Joy-Anna said.

The 26-year-old recalled, "I just handed Gunner to Austin and I started crying. All those what-ifs come to your mind right away. [Gunner] threw up multiple times [and] still hadn't thrown up the ham and was gagging and was not breathing for, like, 20 seconds."

With Austin being an EMT, the couple decided to drive an hour to the local hospital. On the way there, Gunner stopped breathing a couple more times. "I was just crying out to God, 'Please save him,'" an emotional Joy-Anna recounted. "I've never been to a point where I thought I was going to lose one of my kids. It was just like that thought of, 'He is going to die' came to my mind, and it was terrifying."

Thankfully, Gunner started breathing regularly again before they arrived at the hospital. Doctors performed X-rays showing his clear airway, and he was discharged.

"I was just so thankful that God protected him, and we made it to the hospital and that whatever was in his throat wasn't bothering him anymore," Joy-Anna said, calling it "a roller-coaster of emotions."

The mother of three said the ordeal was a reminder to "just really hug your babies a little bit tighter and thank God...for giving us life and breath. You never know when something is going to happen."

A few days after the event, Joy-Anna posted a photo of a happy Gunner playing in the grass.

Joy-Anna and Austin announced the Gunner's arrival in May 2023, the couple's third child and second son.

"He's here! 💙" Joy-Anna wrote beneath a photo of herself holding the little bundle of joy on Instagram. "Thank you all for praying… Mama and baby are recovering well."

Gunner joined big brother Gideon, 6, and Evelyn, 3. Joy-Anna and Austin, who tied the knot in 2017, announced that Joy-Anna was pregnant in October 2022.

"Baby #3 is on the way!" they captioned their joint announcement at the time.

In the first of the sweet shots, Joy-Anna held a sonogram as her husband kissed her on the cheek. The second photo featured the whole family.

Joy-Anna and Austin also shared a video on YouTube documenting when she took a pregnancy test.

"We have been trying and we're both ready to have No. 3," Joy-Anna said in the video. "... We're at a really good spot now. We love our family and we're ready to expand."

With that, the couple looked at the test and discovered that they did in fact have a baby on the way, news Joy-Anna reacted to with tears of joy. They also gave fans a peek into their first doctor's appointment.

"We are ECSTATIC and cannot wait to hold this sweet baby in our arms in May, 2023!" the duo captioned the video. "We would appreciate your prayers these next 7 and half months for a safe pregnancy and delivery."

"Keep up with our new videos as we tell Gideon and Evelyn, our parents and siblings... and as we keep you updated with this pregnancy!" they continued. "Appreciate you all!"
