The Emmy-winning former host will appear on the Comedy Central program Mondays beginning Feb. 12.
Jon Stewart is back for a weekly moment of zen. The Daily Show alum is set to return to the late-night Comedy Central program, hosting on Monday nights until the completion of the 2024 election cycle, according to reports.
The 61-year-old comedian teased the news with a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), joking, "Friends. After much reflection I have decided to enter the transfer portal for my last year of eligibility. Excited for the future! 5’7” ish 165 14.8 second 40."
The Daily Show also addressed the news on its own account with a photo of Stewart back at his old stomping grounds, feet up on the desk as he wears a casual baseball hat and denim.
News of Stewart's return, beginning Feb. 12, comes more than one year after host Trevor Noah left the program in December 2022. The Daily Show with Trevor Noah notably won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Series earlier this month. Previously, Stewart led the show for 16 years beginning in 1999 and racked up 22 Emmys between his contributions to The Daily Show and The Colbert Report.
When he's not hosting, Stewart is expected to still be involved as an executive producer on all upcoming episodes as a rotating lineup of regular guest stars will fill in on camera. Current Daily Show correspondents include Desi Lydic, Michael Kosta, Ronny Chieng and Jordan Klepper.
"Jon Stewart is the voice of our generation, and we are honored to have him return to Comedy Central's The Daily Show to help us all make sense of the insanity and division roiling the country as we enter the election season," Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, said in a statement. "In our age of staggering hypocrisy and performative politics, Jon is the perfect person to puncture the empty rhetoric and provide much-needed clarity with his brilliant wit."
In April, Stewart made a surprise appearance on The Daily Show to give guest host Roy Wood Jr. some advice on covering the arraignment of former President Donald Trump.
Then, in September, Stewart gave ET a hard "No" when asked whether he misses his time in late night.
"Look at the beautiful life that exists outside of it," he marveled at the time. "I did my time. I give those guys all credit for doing it, but I'm very happy to have stepped aside."
