The 'Dance Moms' alum and ex-girlfriend Kylie Prew dated on and off from 2021-2022.
JoJo Siwa does not recommend moving in with your significant other as a teenager! The former child star reflected on her questionable dating decisions during her appearance on the latest Call Her Daddy podcast episode.
After Siwa shared that her parents and brother had moved out of the house they all shared recently, she recalled the time when she lived with both her parents and her girlfriend under the same roof.
"As a 20-year-old, I look at 16-year-olds and I'm like, 'Oh my god. You are the age that my girlfriend was when she moved into my house," she told host Alex Cooper, noting she was only "nine months older" at the time. "Like, clearly U-Haul lesbians are a very real thing because I was one without even knowing what one was."
Looking back on the unconventional arrangement, Siwa cited the COVID-19 pandemic as a large part of what led to them living together. "It [was] COVID, it was summer. It just, kind of, all happened. Then, she came to California and then I was like, 'Don't leave,'" Siwa said. "Two weeks turned into four weeks, turned into eight weeks, turned into nine months. Then, we were a married couple at 17 and 16, we had to break up."
Time has given the dancer a clearer perspective on the situation. "Looking back, all of us are like, 'That should've never happened. My mom says all the time, 'I should've never allowed my 16-year-old's partner to live with us. That was not healthy for you, much less her and her family. Someone should've put their foot down.' But no one at the time felt it was right to," she added.
Although Siwa doesn't mention her ex's name, the timeline would point to her ex-girlfriend, Kylie Prew, whom Siwa began dating after they met on a cruise in 2020.
Siwa came out in January 2021 and introduced Prew as her girlfriend on their one-month anniversary in February 2021. In September of that year, the Nickelodeon star told ET that it was "really fun" to have Prew's support on projects like The J Team.
"I've had my mom, obviously, my whole life, who's always been right by my side and who I love so much. Literally my rock for forever. And it's cool to have love and support in a different way, you know what I mean? ... Having this love makes it all so much greater," she shared. It just adds, and it's awesome."
Siwa also dished that she and Prew said "I love you" to one another. "We just love to be together," she said. "We don't care what we do as long as we're having fun."
ET learned that the Dancing With the Stars contestant and Prew were no longer together in October 2021. A few months after they announced they had rekindled their relationship in May 2022, Prew revealed that the couple broke up again in August.
"Someone asked me, just now, if I was single. I am," Prew confirmed in a TikTok live that year. "I've been single for almost two months, and it's OK, it's not deep, I promise. Everything's fine. Not everything has to be messy and gross. Because it's not. And I just wanted to clear the air."
Prew continued, "We're both safe and happy and healthy and that's all that matters. It doesn't need to be drama because that just gives everyone unwanted anxiety, especially if they're like me."
Siwa, who has since been romantically connected to TikTok stars Avery Cyrus and Katie Mills, told Cooper that Prew is still her "good friend," gushing that the pair still talk to one another "all the time."
Earlier this month, the former child star ushered in a new NSFW era as she begins a more mature chapter ahead of her 21st birthday. Siwa recently spoke to ET on the set of her video for "Karma," where she opened up about navigating a new stage in life and her career having made a foundation with young fans.
"It's been something that we've tried to figure out the best way to navigate," she admitted. "I do have such a young fan base, and I do have a lot of kids that look at JoJo Siwa and still follow my music from years ago. However, you know, I'm not the same that I was when I was 14."
"That can live on and people can know that human. But this now is 20-year-old, 21-year-old, here for a good time [JoJo]. Let's be honest, let's be real. Let's make some art," she said of her new era.
